WHEELS-UP FOR BISHOP AT WINTERNATS

Stuart Bishop has delighted the fans at Willowbank Raceway’s Castrol EDGE Winternationals with a wild two-wheeled ride today against defending champion and eventual event winner John Zappia.

Bishop faced off against Zappia in the first round after his qualifying performance yesterday saw him into an extremely tough Top Doorslammer field, that came close to being the quickest Doorslammer field in ANDRA Pro Series history.

With Zappia fighting for a championship and Bishop looking to give it his all it was always going to be an exciting run, however in the end Bishop’s enthusiasm on the startline saw him cut a red light (jump the start).

“I tried too hard – I was concentrating really hard on cutting a real good light and it bit me,” said Bishop.

“We know that we had a 5.9 second pass in that car, and the data after the run showed that we could have had a run like that, but we were a bit hard on the track and started to do what they call 'climbing up on the tyre', putting us up into a wheelstand.

“I saw the red light out of the corner of my eye but I thought I would see if I could run a good number anyway, but then about half track the car was pointing towards the middle blocks and I hate the thought of creating extra work for the track officials who have to come out and replace them, they work so hard over the weekend so I backed off at that point.

“We are really happy with how the year has gone, it has been a big year for us, a lot of changes and we will now work on making sure that the year ahead goes smoothly and that we can make a big show at the first round for 2010/2011.

“I want to thank the team for all of their effort and support this season, and we are all looking forward to seeing if we can beat our result this season next year.”

Zappia went on to claim the event win and in doing so, the Australian Top Doorslammer Championship.

The Stuart Bishop Racing team will next be in action for the 2010/2011 ANDRA Pro Series season opener – the Australian Nationals – at Sydney Dragway over September 10-12.
