KELLY BROTHERS RECOVER FROM SPINS IN TOWNSVILLE

Jack Daniel’s Racing team-mates Todd and Rick Kelly have both recovered from spins to post top 20 finishes in the second race of the Sucrogen Townsville 400 in far north Queensland today.

Rick Kelly finished 13th in today’s race after being spun by Tony D’Alberto on the second lap at Turn 1.

Kelly was lucky to survive the crash with only minor damage after Russell Ingall collected D’Alberto, damaging both cars but with the #15 Jack Daniel’s Commodore continuing on from the back of the pack.

Later in the race Todd Kelly suffered the same fate at the same corner, hit from behind by Michael Caruso on lap 54 while running in 11th place.

The spin did significant damage to the rear of Kelly’s #7 Jack Daniel’s Commodore but Kelly was able to bring his car home to the finish in 20th place to collect enough points to rise another spot into 17th in the points standings.

Mark Winterbottom won today’s race ahead of James Courtney and Garth Tander.

The next event of the 2010 V8 Supercars Championship Series is the L&H 500 at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in Victoria on September 10-12.

JACK DANIEL’S RACING QUOTEBOARD

RICK KELLY - #15 Jack Daniel’s Racing Holden Commodore:

“There was a lot of pretty rough driving going on out there,” said Rick Kelly.

“It was a hard day and it was tough fighting for positions, so it was good racing for the fans.

“We were just a little bit vulnerable with our car. We didn't get the set-up right.

“I got turned around there early on in the race and we didn't quite have the race pace we wanted to make up as many spots as we could.

“Today was not as bad as other days so we can move forward as a team.

“We need to get a better car set-up for this place because it’s a big round of the championship and it’s important to us to win it.

“As a team we didn't do a good enough job today, so we will work hard to fix it.

“There are tracks where we are strong and there are tracks where we are not as strong and for us, we're working on things that can improve our weaknesses, so that's a positive.

“We'll just take the good with the bad and try to get a lot of points from all the events left for this year.

“It was another massive Townsville event. When we did the parade lap the crowd was cheering and there were just so many people here.

“They all seem to be having a really good time as well and I guess that's what it's all about - that the people in the grandstands and corporate areas and on the spectator mounds are having a good time.

“I think from the event point of view Townsville was again a great success.”

TODD KELLY - #7 Jack Daniel’s Racing Holden Commodore:

“We had ourselves a decent Jack Daniel’s Commodore today,” said Todd Kelly.

“We were actually catching and passing a lot of cars and if we could have been further up in qualifying we would have been reasonably competitive.

“I was having to push quite hard to get from where we were to gain position so it was quite hard on the car.

“Considering that it hung in there quite well, especially compared to yesterday.

“It is a terrible result to get turned around and finish so far down the order but it was a positive race in terms of where we are at with the car.”
