11 July 2010 CHALLENGING WEEKEND FOR FOSTER IN TOWNSVILLE
Steeline’s Nick Foster endured a challenging weekend during Round 5 of the Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship at the Sucrogen Townsville 400 in North Queensland across the weekend.
Foster, who entering this weekend’s event was second in the championship standings, enjoyed a strong run during qualifying to set the third fastest time before claiming the runner-up spot in the opening 11-lap encounter.
Unfortunately though, the remainder of his weekend didn’t pan out so well. While well placed in the second race Foster’s Steeline Mygale was hit from behind by the car of Geoffrey Uhrhane as they slowed under a safety car period. The impact caused suspension damage to both cars forcing the two drivers out of the race.
After making a strong start from the back of the grid in the final race Foster made up several positions in the opening few corners before he was caught up a multi-car tangle, ending his Townsville campaign.
Courtesy of the weekend’s results Foster dropped to third place in the championship standings. Chaz Mostert, who won all three races across the weekend, remains in the championship lead.
The next round on the Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship schedule is at the Armor All Gold Coast 600 on October 22-24.
WHAT NICK HAD TO SAY …
NICK FOSTER - #13 Steeline Mygale SJ10a:
“It is just a very disappointing weekend, I’m devastated as my championship hopes are all but gone, but I'm not giving up,” said Foster.
“I had some good speed during qualifying and Race 1, then we made some more improvements and things were all looking good during the early laps of Race 2 before it all turned pear shaped.
“The incident in Race 2 shouldn’t have happened, it’s as simple as that.
“From that point it simply went pear shaped because I was at the back and got caught up in other people’s accidents, which ended my weekend.
“I’m now 58 points out of the championship lead, which is basically three race wins, so the title is almost out of reach but I won’t give up. The focus now is to go out and get as many race wins as possible to go for the glory round by round.”
